🏍 The Route
Day 19: Flight to Bari and Ferry Connection
We will meet in Bari and take the overnight ferry to Durrës, the gateway to Albania and our first stop.
Day 20: Durrës - Podgorica (Albania → Montenegro)
This section takes us from the Albanian coast to the Montenegrin capital, passing through landscapes of hills, valleys, and secondary roads that take us off the beaten track.
After disembarking at the port, we begin our journey north, leaving the bustling coastal city behind. The road takes us through rural areas with small villages and agricultural fields before entering the mountains.
Although we will avoid the traffic of the capital, we will pass near Tirana, where the landscape begins to change. Here we find gently winding roads and panoramic views of the Albanian valleys.
The border between Albania and Montenegro is crossed by secondary roads that wind through mountains and rivers. We'll pass by the largest lake in the Balkans, with its calm waters surrounded by green hills.
The Montenegrin capital is a convenient resting point before heading into the mountains. Although not the most touristy city in the country, it offers an interesting mix of modern architecture and historical remains.
Day 21: Podgorica - Zabljak
Straight to the heart of Montenegro, where secondary roads wind through spectacular mountain scenery.
We leave the city behind and head north, along one of the most impressive roads in the country, with tunnels carved into the rock and vertiginous views over the river.
Passing through small villages surrounded by mountains and an area famous for its ski resorts, we'll make a brief stop to enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings and sample the local cuisine.
The road continues climbing until we reach Durmitor National Park, where we encounter the Tara River Canyon, the deepest in Europe. This stretch is a delight for us motorcycle lovers, with hairpin bends and landscapes of coniferous forests.
Zabljak is the entry point to Durmitor National Park, an ideal place to explore glacial lakes, mountain trails, and enjoy nature in its purest state.
Day 22: Zabljak - Mostar (Montenegro → Bosnia-Herzegovina)
This stage takes us from the majestic Durmitor region to the historic city of Mostar, passing through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Balkans.
We'll leave the peaks of Durmitor behind and descend along one of the most spectacular routes in Montenegro. The winding road, flanked by towering cliffs, leads us past turquoise reservoirs and tunnels carved into the rock.
After traveling through the Montenegrin valleys, we will cross into Bosnia-Herzegovina on small secondary roads that pass through lush coniferous forests and almost forgotten villages.
The entrance to Mostar is striking: its famous stone bridge, Stari Most, rises over the Neretva River and transports us to an Ottoman past. Here we can explore its old town, with cobblestone streets, bazaars, and cafes overlooking the city.
Day 23: Mostar - Sarajevo
We explore the Bosnian capital, a cradle of recent history and with a unique atmosphere between East and West.
The journey between Mostar and Sarajevo is full of contrasts, with a mix of lush nature and traces of recent history.
We begin the day touring the surroundings of the Neretva River, with stops in picturesque towns such as Konjic, famous for its Ottoman bridge and its impressive mountainous surroundings.
The road plunges into the Dinaric Alps, revealing dramatic landscapes with lakes and deep forests. This section offers some of the most exciting curves of the journey.
Upon arriving in Sarajevo, we find a vibrant and multicultural city, where mosques, churches, and synagogues coexist in perfect harmony. We'll stroll through its famous Baščaršija neighborhood, try traditional burek, and immerse ourselves in the fascinating history of the Bosnian capital.
Day 24: Sarajevo - Novi Pazar (Bosnia-Herzegovina → Serbia)
This track takes us from vibrant Sarajevo to Novi Pazar, a city with a fascinating blend of Ottoman and Balkan influences. The route passes through mountainous landscapes, deep valleys, and secondary roads that immerse us in the most authentic essence of Serbia.
We begin the day leaving the Bosnian capital behind, traveling along roads that wind through mountains and small villages with traditional architecture. The first part of the journey takes us through a valley that is one of the most scenic areas in the region.
The crossing into Serbia is via secondary roads that pass through dense forests and less-traveled rural areas. Here, the landscape changes, revealing gentle hills and agricultural valleys that lead us toward Novi Pazar.
Novi Pazar is a city with a rich history and a strong Ottoman influence, with UNESCO-recognized medieval monasteries and ruins, 16th-century mosques, and Orthodox temples of great historical significance.
The city is known for its cuisine, especially cevapi, a grilled meat dish served with bread and onions. It's the perfect place to enjoy a traditional dinner before continuing your adventure.
Day 25: Novi Pazar - Prizren (Serbia → Kosovo)
From historic Novi Pazar to Prizren, one of Kosovo's most charming cities. The route passes through mountainous landscapes, deep valleys, and secondary roads that immerse us in the region's most authentic essence.
The road takes us through gentle hills and agricultural valleys before entering the mountains that separate Serbia from Kosovo.
The crossing into Kosovo, like the previous stage, is also made on secondary roads that pass through dense forests and rural areas with very little traffic. The road continues downhill until reaching Prizren, a city with impressive architecture and a lively old town.
Prizren is known for its cuisine, especially flija, a traditional dish of layers of slow-cooked dough. It's the perfect place to enjoy dinner before continuing the adventure.
Day 26: Prizren - Durrës and return ferry (Kosovo → Albania)
We head back to Albania on one of Albania's most spectacular roads, perfect for ending the trip with an extra dose of adventure.
This section, which connects Kosovo with Albania, passes through stunning mountain landscapes, with hairpin bends and panoramic views over the valley of a spectacular turquoise river.
